What's the first thing you do when you wake up/go to bed?
I HAVE to take my make up off before I go to bed no matter what. It doesn't matter if I call it a night early or if I'm coming home after a night out - it needs to come off! I'm a big fan of miceller water especially for long days.
Do you have any ritual health/beauty/wellness routines or products?
I started using Farmacy about 3 months ago. I have very dry skin especially in the winter so their night moisturizer Sleep Tight is amazing. They use echinacea in most of their products as an antinflamitory agent.
What's your favorite feature on yourself and why?
My hair. It's what I'm known for. I spent a lot of time fighting the curl. But ever since I put down the hair straightener I've found that I feel more like myself. I've embraced it and by doing so I feel as if I've embraced who I am and where I come from. It's pretty low maintenance now. I wash it twice a week tops with Shea Moisture shampoo and conditioner and I use coconut oil to keep is moisturized shiny.
How do your job, lifestyle, and background affect your routine?
I'm a visual manager at Free People, so that means there are a lot of early mornings for me. I sometimes have to be at the store as early as 6am. I need my sleep so I've cut my morning routine down to about 10 minutes.
What do you do to stay healthy?
The only type of exercise I really enjoy is yoga. I love that it not only exercises your body, but also your mind. Yoga classes/memberships can be expensive so I've started to just watch videos on YouTube and practice in my room. POPSUGAR Fitness is my favorite channel.
Do you have any cultural tips/tricks you've learned from family and/or friends?
Skincare, skincare, skincare! Being from Singapore, my mom always taught me the importance of taking care of your skin. Coming from such a hot and humid climate, it's easy to get lazy and sluggish and not feel like taking of your make up and putting on moisturizer and all that but it's the most important thing when it comes to taking care of your skin.
How do you choose beauty products?
I try my best to only use products that are moisturizing and chemical free.
What ethnicities are you?
White and Asian. My Dad is American, of Irish, Swedish and Norwegian decent and my Mom is from Singapore - Singaporean Chinese
How do your ethnicity and identity intersect and affect your beauty preferences (or grievances)?
When it comes to choosing products, I find that there isn't a product for "mixed girls" and I think that almost makes sense because there are so many different ways to be of mixed race. While I love for a line a products to be mixed race focused, I feel that it also doesn't make much sense...if that makes any sense.
If you were to create the perfect beauty/wellness product for yourself, what would it be?
It would probably be some sort of dry spot remedy. Organic coconut oil would be the first ingredient for sure.
